antique wooden tikka box - small
An old handcrafted wooden tikka box with a lovely leaf and flower pattern on the lid. The lid slides open to reveal 5 small compartments. Tikka boxes are used to hold the red kum kum (குங்குமம்) powder worn by Hindu women (and men) in India. This powder made from turmeric and slaked lime is worn to to invoke religious blessings and believed to activate the third eye chakra.
